INDUSTRY: SALARY & BENEFITS Truck Driving Salary Expectations First year truck driving salary for an OTR driver is $35,000 - $36,000. Local truck drivers are generally paid by the hour and get overtime, usually after 40 hours. Earnings of long-haul drivers usually depend on miles driven or hours worked, as well as seniority, and the type of truck operated. Wage scales differ from region to region and also often depend on the kind of freight carried.
